Opera Theater Oregon unleashes the 3rd installation of the OPERA vs. CINEMA series with “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde vs. Dr. Atomic”, featuring silent film parings with live improvised accompaniment to your favorite operas. For this one-night-only Friday the 13th show at the Mission Theater, we will bring the classic horror film “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” to the big screen with accompaniment inspired by the driving and explosively dramatic music of John Adams’ opera “Doctor Atomic.”  Pianist Douglas Schneider, percussionist Ian Kerr and tenor Daniel Buchanan will team up in a minimalist group improvisation to put a new twist on a classic tale.

Experience the feast of the Resurrection through the lens of soaring polyphonic motets by the great Spanish and Portuguese composers Francisco Guerrero, Duarte Lobo, and Tomás Luis de Victoria. Dr. Owen Rees is both a performer and a scholar, specializing in Renaissance and Baroque works, especially those from Spain and Portugal. He is University Reader in Music and Organist at The Queen’s College, Oxford and the founder and director of the critically acclaimed Renaissance vocal ensemble Contrapunctus.

Join Cappella Romana on a 1,000-year journey from Constantinople to California. Ancient Byzantine chants mark the point of departure for musical encounters with Crusaders and Venetians. East meets West again at St. Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles, where Frank Desby founded a tradition, continued by his Californian peers, of Greek-American choral music. The tour comes full circle with the mystical ecstasy of Radiant Cloud, a sonic icon of the Transfiguration by Athenian composer Michael Adamis.
