I spoke today to a class of students at Wilson Elementary in Houston about my trip to Zimbabwe. I told them why I had gone and some of the ups and downs of being in a place like Zim. They had lots of questions, including a couple of my favorites: “Do they have black widow spiders in Zimbabwe?” and after telling them about the adobe grass huts, one boy said “My room is bigger than their whole house!” to which I relied, “Yes. Yes, indeed.”
It was also kind of cool to feel like I was connecting children in America with children in Africa by sharing my experiences. And furthermore, that many of the children in both countries are actually immigrants, not even native to their countries of residence.
