Zambezi Rafting

While at Victoria Falls, 7 of us went whitewater rafting on the Zambezi River. This is the river that separates Zimbabwe and Zambia, and it includes some of the most exciting and challenging rapids in the world. Unfortunately, the first 10 rapids are especially dangerous this time of year, so they close them down and start at rapid 11. But the Mighty Zambezi still has lots in store for those who dare to tread its waters. Before getting in the boat, everyone has to hike down a steep, slippery gorge for about 3 kilometers. And after the rafting, we have have hike back up the same distance. The whole experience is grueling, demanding, and most importantly, thrilling. The rafting was fun and bonding, and until the very end, even a bit easy. But then we hit the rapid they call “Oblivion.” Something was wrong about our approach and our boat flipped! I was pretty scared and thought for sure I was drowning. But in the end, it was awesome!
